To complete our unit for Romeo and Juliet, we will utilize three things that you must have access to at home and in school EVERY DAY: a pen or pencil, Literature book, and your notebook with notes and review questions. Make sure you bring these things to class each day as you will receive points for doing so. Do not lose your notebook, especially because all of your answers to the Review Questions will be written in there.
Breakdown of unit....Each scene of the play is accompanied with review questions to help you understand what is going on. During the class, we will listen to the play being read, pausing to answer questions at the end of each scene. Whatever we finish reading during the day is what questions you need to have answered for the next day. When you get home to do the review on your own, you may use the website linked below. Sparknotes has the Shakespearean language opposite the modern day text of the play. Keep in mind that Sparknotes does not REPLACE you reading the text in class; it supplements it.
In addition, with each Act we complete, you need to keep a character journal. You will be able to choose one of the main characters and write about thoughts, feelings, attitudes, actions, and experiences he/she goes through in that section. Keep up with it throughout your reading.
Just to repeat, EACH NIGHT you MUST review what we read in class, complete questions, reread the text and/or No Fear Shakespeare, and review your character list. If you don't, you will forget and get lost in the reading the following day.
